Somali President outlines key priorities in Parliamentary address

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that the government is prioritizing efforts on debt relief, lifting the arms embargo, and liberating areas under al-Shabab control this year.

Speaking at the opening of Somalia’s fourth session of parliament yesterday, President Mohamud emphasized that the country also improved most issues related to foreign affairs and the international community.

“When the Parliament of Somalia approves the necessary regulations, the result will be that the debt will soon be forgiven, and the arms embargo will be removed. The revision of the constitution will be another important milestone that will contribute to making the country great again,” he stated.

President Hassan Sheikh briefed the parliamentarians on the government’s political, security, economic, reconciliation, and development achievements in the past period.

“In the last four months, domestic revenue has increased by 25%, attributed to efficient operations, leading to the government budget for 2024 exceeding one billion dollars,” he added.

President Mohamud highlighted the government’s significant efforts in stabilizing the country, addressing conflicts, and improving the relationship between the Federal Government and Regional Governments while safeguarding the unity and solidarity of Somalis.
