The Vice President of the Jubbaland State of Somalia, Abdiqadir Haji Mohamud has today officiated an emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing severe rains that has left trails of destruction and ways to help the people affected by the torrential rains and the subsequent flooding.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Jubbaland State and was attended by some of the Jubbaland Cabinet, civil society organizations, the administration of Gedo and Lower Jubba regions among other top officials.
The meeting focused on how to rescue people from the adverse effects of the torrential rains.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of Jubbaland said that the rains has been witnessed in many parts of Jubbaland state adding that the effects of the rains has been severe and large number of people have been displaced.
The Minister of Information and Tourism of Jubbaland State, Abdifatah Mohamed Mukhtar spoke emotionally about the problems faced by the mothers and children who do not have shelter because of the effects of the torrential rains and called on different groups of the society and businesspersons to assist the victims of flooding.
The Vice President of Jubbaland State, Abdul Qadir Haji Mahmoud, who spoke at the meeting has called for a joint response to the ongoing emergency and urged for assistance to the flood victims in Middle Jubba, Gedo and Lower Jubba regions.
