Jubbaland State displays traditional elders accused of cooperating with al-Shabab

The regional state’s military court prosecution has requested the court grant 60-day legal imprisonment for these elders, allowing for a thorough investigation into the accusations against them.

The court has agreed to detain the elders for two additional months, granting the prosecution ample time to complete its investigation before the trial.

The accused elders are as follows:

  2.     Ismail Khalifa Ibrahim
  3.     Shire Osman Mohamed
  4.     Abdi Barre Mohamed
  5.     Omar Mohamud Elmi
  6.     Abdi Mohamed Hirsi
  7.     Yusuf Abdullahi Jama
  8.     Ahmed Mohamud Hassan
  9.     Salat Abdi Mohamud
  10.     Abdullahi Bile Said
  11.     Ahmed Abdi Keyd

The Jubbaland administration had previously cautioned traditional elders against travelling in areas under al-Shabaab control, emphasizing that those who comply with al-Shabaab’s orders or engage in agreements with the militants will be treated similarly.
