A heartbreaking incident occurred in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when a nine-year-old Somali boy tragically fell from the fifth floor of a condominium complex in the Setapak neighbourhood, a bustling suburb in the northeastern part of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.
The boy, who resided in block B of the condominium complex on Jalan Langkawi with his mother, had just returned from a Quran class in block A. Wangsa Maju district deputy police chief Saralathan Duraisamy explained that the young boy had ventured down to the fifth floor, where a bridge connects the two apartment blocks.
Unable to open the bridge door, which required an access card for entry, the boy is believed to have climbed out of the window in an attempt to cross the bridge, resulting in the fatal fall.
The child and his mother are registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and have resided in Malaysia since 2017. This tragic event underscores the vulnerability of refugees in unfamiliar environments and the importance of comprehensive support systems for these communities.
