Jubbaland regional state deployed new army battalions to the Afmadow district in Lower Jubba region to accelerate the ongoing offensive against al Shabab on Friday.

Jubbaland security minister Yusuf Hussein Osman Dhumal, who is in charge of the operation plan in Jubbaland, stated that Jubbaland was prepared to take over the areas controlled by al-Shabab.

He added that the troops would liberate the districts of Jilib and Bu’alle from al-Shabab, which are now the main Shabaab bases in Somalia.

In recent months, the army and local clan militias have retaken chunks of territory in Galmudug and Hirshabelle states in an operation backed by US air strikes and an African Union force.
