
At least five soldiers were killed, and several others wounded on Saturday in a roadside bomb blast targeting African Union forces on the outskirts of Marca district, Lower Shabelle region.
Officials confirmed the attack but did not specify any number of casualties.
Local media reported that the five soldiers killed were Ugandans serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
The al-Qaeda-linked armed group al-Shabab has said it was behind the attack. However, the AU mission has yet to comment on the attack.
