UN welcomes National Consultative Council communique, calls for credible poll

The United Nations in Somalia has praised the communique made by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, heads of state and the governor of Benadir region, following a conference in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The statement from the United Nations Office in Somalia also said it was important to have a credible result in the new timeline for the conclusion of the Somali Parliamentary elections.

“The United Nations believes that the priority now is to implement these decisions, in order to achieve a credible new timeline,” The statement from the United Nations Office in Somalia said.

The UN also called on regional leaders to focus on electoral transparency and credibility.

The United Nations also called on Somali leaders to continue working together and to avoid any further conflict or escalation of the crisis.
