The President of the Jubaland State of Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed Islam has today chaired a critical virtual meeting on finding a lasting solution to the ongoing ravaging drought situation in many parts of Jubbaland regional state.
The virtual meeting which was organized by the Jubbaland Ministry of Humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management was attended by the officials of the Embassies of the Netherlands, Sweden, the UK and representatives of aid agencies operating in the country.
The Jubbaland state President said that the current situation requires immediate assistance as the Ministry of humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management is on top gears addressing the situation, adding that the assistance needed is now the best time to give out to the victims of the drought.
He added that they are working together to create a lasting solution to recurring disasters such as droughts and floods and to achieve that it is necessary to build a viable economic infrastructure.
The president also said that the Juba River dams and rainwater harvesting are important for the community to reuse in times of drought.
