The Federal Government of Somalia is concerned over the protests and violence in many parts of South Africa, which has affected the businesses.
A statement from the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Somali government was “deeply saddened” by the killing of four Somalis and the massive looting.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its deepest concern over the violence and looting in which four Somalis were killed and scores of others injured and their shops looted by armed robbers in various parts of South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal region,” A statement from Somali Foreign Ministry has said.
The Somali government has also called on the South African government to show strong commitment to protect the country’s citizens from acts of ruthlessness and to ensure the survival, protection and shops.
“Somalia is proud of its historic relationship with the people of South Africa during the struggle against apartheid and the extent of its political, economic and strategic support it has provided for some time,” The statement further said.
Four Somali traders have been killed and their property looted in South Africa in recent days following violent skirmishes in the wake of former President Jacob Zuma’s jail sentencing.
