During his brief visit to Djibouti, Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said that Somalia is entering an election phase.
Prime Minister Roble said preparations are under way for a conference to be held in Mogadishu on May 20th, which will resolve Somalia’s electoral dispute.
“Somalia is entering an electoral phase. Preparations are underway for the conference i announced on May 20th, which will take place within the time frame, God willingly.” Said Prime Minister Roble.
“I returned to the capital Mogadishu after attending the inauguration ceremony of President Ismail Omar Gelle in Djibouti,” The prime minister’s statement added.
The Somali premier said he met with regional leaders in Djibouti to discuss issues critical to regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
The prime minister and his delegation arrived in the Somali capital, Mogadishu last night.
The inauguration of Ismail Omar Gelle, who was re-elected president of Djibouti for the fifth time, was attended by a host of regional leaders.
The Council of the Union of Somali Presidential Candidates has issued a statement expressing concern that Prime Minister Roble is facing immense pressure from outside which might jeopardize his integrity and neutrality in the country’s elections.
The Union of Candidates also called on the Prime Minister to stop unnecessary travels abroad and show independence and to start the election process as soon as possible.
