Somali government promotes Awdheegle and Barire forces after last week’s fight with Al-Shabaab militants

The Federal Government of Somalia has promoted the Somali National Army in the towns of Barire and Awdheegle in the Lower Shabelle region, which have recently engaged in heavy fighting with the Al-Shabaab terror militants.

Commander of the Armed Forces General Odowa Yusuf Rage promoted officers and non-commissioned officers in Barire and Awdheegle, lower shabelle region.

The troops were praised for their resilience in the fierce battle against the Al-Shabaab militants who last week launched a planned tactical attack on the Somali government bases in the two areas of Lower shabelle.

The promoted officers and soldiers thanked Somali government officials and affirmed their resiliency to continue to defend their country.

Somali Minister for Defense Hassan Hussein Haji issued a statement congratulating the officers, non-commissioned officers and all promoted soldiers and said the war on terror from far from over.

The Barire and Awdheegle government military bases was attacked last week by the Al-Qaeda linked Al- Shabaab terror cells before being repulsed by the government forces and inflicting serious casualties on the terror group militants.
