The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has expressed concern over the failure of the National Consultative Forum of Heads of State and Government to reach a compromise on elections in Somalia.
“IGAD urges all leaders to refrain from any action that could jeopardize the efforts to resume talks and intensify the current political stalemate,” IGAD said in a statement.
IGAD also urged Somali leaders to return to the path of dialogue and work together for compromise, taking into account the interests of the Somali people and the country.
“The interests of the Somali people remain paramount and the Somali leadership must realize the people’s aspirations for peaceful, inclusive, free, fair and credible elections. Failure is not an option,” said a statement from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), of which Somalia is a member.
