At least 1,300 troops have attended the Singo Peace Support Training Center for combat training before being sent to Somalia in October.

Uganda plans to send 2,752 reservists from the UPDF who are expected to set up Battle Groups 34 and 35 to be deployed between October this year and mid-next year in Somalia.

The UPDF recalled the Reserve in January through the office of the reserve commander, Lt Gen Charles Awany Otema. Deputy Spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiiki, to select additional troops for the AMISOM operation.

Battle Group 34 will replace Battle Group 30, which was deployed in Somalia in December last year.

“They will miss training in October and are ready to be deployed to Somalia,” Said Lt. Col. Akiiki.
