A section of the Somali clerics has called on Somali leaders and the opposition to compromise and throw themselves at the mercy of the Somali people.

Sheikh Mohamed Abdi Umal, a Somali cleric, urged the outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo not to run for office.

Sheikh Osman Usulli, another Somali cleric also made a general recommendation to the Somali leadership.

The clerics said the current political situation in Somalia is critical and divisive politics might take advantage of the tense and fragile political climate.

They called on the Somali leaders to be pragmatic and put the interest of the nation and the people first before everything else.
