Reports from Mataban district in Hiran region indicate that government security forces of the federal government of Somalia have carried out security operations in districts of Hiraan region of Somalia.
Troops in armored vehicles have been seen driving to areas under Mataban district, where members of the Somali islamist group Al-Shabaab have recently targeted, as well as bearing the brunt of occasional clan clashes and clan killings.
Witnesses also reported that some troops have carried out door to door search while others were canvasing the rural parts of Mataban.
Government officials heading the security crackdown have not yet divulged any details of the mission but credible sources privy to the operation indicated that several people majority of whom youth suspected to be working the Al- Shabaab terror group.
At the time of going to press, reports were indicating that a heavy fighting broke out between Somali government forces backed by AMISOM troops and the Al- Shabaab fighters in Matabaan town, in Lower Shabelle region.
Police are said to have withdrawn from the district following the heavy fighting.
