Reports from Jowhar town, the capital of Hir-shabelle region in southern Somalia indicate that the election of the new speaker of the parliament will take place today.
Six candidates for the post of Speaker of the Hir-Shabelle Parliament and his two deputies were heard yesterday.
Security in Jowhar today is tightened. Lawmakers were informed that the poll will happen this morning after it emerged that a former president of Somalia, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed will be in Jowhar to influence the election.
The candidates for the post of Speaker of the Hir-Shabelle Parliament and his two deputies are as follows:
1: MP Abdihakin Luqman Haji Mohamed & MP Mohamed Mohamud Ibrahim (Godir) running for Speaker of Hir-Shabelle Parliament.
2: MP Sadiq Salad Warsame and MP Siraaji Sheikh Ishaq Abdulle running for the post of 1st Deputy Speaker of the 2nd Parliament of Hirshabelle State.
3: MP Mahad Hassan Osman and MP Anab Ahmed Isse running for the 2nd Deputy Speaker of the 2nd Parliament of Hirshabelle State.
The election of the speaker of Hir-shabelle parliament is widely felt in Jowhar town this coming amidst controversy and quagmire on the presidential poll which is still in limbo and no agreements reached.
