The Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Jubaland State Government, accompanied by members of the Council of Ministers, the Mayor of Kismayo, minstry directors, traditional elders, and other officials, jointly inaugurated a newly constructed water reservoir in Jiroole, a community located approximately 65 kilometres from Kismayo.
The newly completed reservoir has a storage capacity of more than 12,000 cubic metres of water and has been fitted with all key components required for a fully operational water supply system.
The project was implemented under the Barwaaqo Project, funded by the World Bank and executed by the Jubaland Ministry of Energy and Water Resources as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water infrastructure and improve access to safe and reliable water services.
The initiative is designed to provide the residents of Jiroole with sufficient clean water to meet their daily needs, contributing to improved public health, better living conditions, and enhanced socio-economic development for the local community.
Officials described the completion of the reservoir as a significant milestone that will help address longstanding water shortages in Jiroole and surrounding areas, while supporting the resilience and well-being of local populations.
