The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Jubaland State today held its monthly humanitarian coordination meeting, bringing together key government officials and humanitarian partners to discuss pressing humanitarian concerns and strengthen disaster preparedness efforts.
The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mohamed Osman Jama, and was attended by the Directors of the Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and Information.
Representatives of the ministry’s partner organizations, as well as officials from the Jubaland Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (JUCRI), also took part in the discussions.
A key focus of the meeting was the anticipated flooding forecast in parts of Jubaland and the need for coordinated preparedness and response measures to mitigate its potential impact on vulnerable communities.
Participants reviewed preparedness plans and emphasized the importance of collaboration among government institutions, humanitarian agencies, and local stakeholders to ensure timely interventions in areas at risk.
According to assessments presented during the meeting, more than 10 districts across Jubaland are facing the threat of flooding, raising concerns over possible displacement, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions to livelihoods if preventive measures are not implemented swiftly.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to enhance coordination, strengthen early warning systems, and support communities that may be affected by the predicted floods in the coming weeks.
