The Minister of Health of the Jubbaland State of Somalia, Ismail Ahmed Garas, today officially closed a nine-day Scientific Writing and Research Publication Workshop held in Kismayo from 1 to 9 September 2026.
The workshop, jointly organized by the Jubbaland Ministry of Health and the Center for Evidence, Innovation and Public Health Research (CEIPR), was aimed at strengthening the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals in research writing, scientific manuscript preparation, and research publication.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Abdullahi Ahmed Tahliil, Public Health Emergency Management Specialist at the Federal Ministry of Health and Human Services of Somalia and Director General of CEIPR, who guided participants through key aspects of conducting, documenting, and publishing scientific research.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister Garas emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that healthcare services, policies, and public health programmes are informed by scientific evidence and reliable data. He noted that evidence-based decision-making is essential for improving health outcomes and strengthening the healthcare system across Jubbaland.
The Minister commended the participants for their commitment and encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained to generate quality research that can contribute to informed health planning and policy development.
The Jubbaland Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research capacity and professional development within the health sector, underscoring its continued efforts to promote evidence-based healthcare and improve the quality of health services delivered to communities across the state.
“Strengthening research and scientific knowledge among health professionals remains a key pillar in our efforts to build a resilient and effective healthcare system,” the Ministry stated.
