
The Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament has officially inaugurated the Jubaland First Division Football League at Waamo Stadium in Kismayo, marking the start of one of the region’s most anticipated sporting competitions.
The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Jubaland Council of Ministers, lawmakers, the Chairman of the Jubaland Football Association, government officials, distinguished guests, and members of the sporting community.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Jubaland Football Association for their continued efforts to promote and develop sports across the state. He emphasized that the league would play a vital role in nurturing young football talent, enhancing players’ skills, and fostering social cohesion among communities.
“The development of sports is essential for empowering young people and creating opportunities for them to showcase their talents,” the Speaker said, highlighting the positive impact football can have on youth development and community engagement.
He also wished all participating teams a successful and fair competition, urging players to uphold the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and mutual respect throughout the tournament.
The Speaker reiterated the important role sports play in promoting peace, unity, and youth empowerment within society.
The Jubaland First Division League kicked off in an organized and vibrant atmosphere and is expected to run over the coming weeks. Teams from across the region will compete for the coveted league title and the honor of being crowned champions of the season.
