Security forces in Somalia’s Lower Juba region have entered the fifth consecutive day of coordinated military operations targeting Al-Shabaab terrorist elements, in a sustained push to restore stability.
The joint offensives are being carried out by Jubbaland State security forces alongside the Somali National Army (SNA), particularly units from the 43rd Division and the elite Danab Commandos.
Operations are currently underway in several areas including Harboole, Miido, Weelmarow, and the Dhasheeg–Waamo forest belt, where the security forces are actively targeting militant hideouts
During the ongoing campaign, security forces have successfully detected, defused, and destroyed at least five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by militants.
Under mounting military pressure, Al-Shabaab militants have reportedly fled from Qumbi and other areas under Afmadow district, unable to withstand the continuous offensives launched by government and Jubbaland forces.
Security units continue to pursue retreating fighters, tracking their positions and dismantling their remaining bases and structures, as part of broader efforts to secure and stabilize liberated areas.
The operations coincide with a recent development in Jubbaland’s military preparedness. On Sunday, Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam concluded a training program for Duufan troops, a new unit of the Jubbaland Darawiish forces, who are expected to reinforce ongoing operations against extremist groups across the region.
The sustained campaign signals a renewed commitment by Somali and regional forces to weaken militant networks and establish lasting security in Lower Juba.
