Jubbaland Advances Rural Development Agenda with 2026 RLRP Steering Committee Kickoff

The Jubbaland Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has convened the first Steering Committee meeting of the Rural Livelihoods Resilience Project (RLRP) for 2026, signaling renewed momentum in efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen rural communities across the region.

The high-level meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kismayo, was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Geelle Muhumed Adan.

The session brought together key stakeholders, including Deputy Minister Ugaas Ali Sokor, RLRP Project Manager Abdi Inshaar Abdi, and National Project Coordinator Ahmed Elmi, along with steering committee members and representatives from partner institutions involved in project implementation.

Discussions during the meeting focused on reviewing the project’s recent performance, identifying challenges encountered, and outlining priority plans for the coming years.

Participants emphasized the need for stronger coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the project is delivered in a transparent, efficient, and results-driven manner.

Presenting an overview of the project’s progress, Project Manager Abdi Inshaar Abdi highlighted key achievements, current status, and future targets, noting that sustained collaboration among institutions is essential for delivering long-term impact and measurable outcomes.

National Project Coordinator Ahmed Elmi also provided a detailed briefing on overall project performance and future ambitions. He stressed the importance of accelerating implementation efforts to meet development goals and maximize benefits for rural communities.

The RLRP, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), plays a pivotal role in improving livelihoods, increasing agricultural output, and enhancing resilience among rural populations in Jubbaland.

The meeting shared commitment to accelerate project delivery and strengthen accountability mechanisms, ensuring that the RLRP continues to deliver tangible benefits to communities across Jubbaland.
