In a significant victory for environmental conservation, police forces in Afmadow district, Lower Juba region, have apprehended a group of individuals caught red-handed in the illegal hunting and trafficking of local wildlife.
The suspects were reportedly defiant of previous stern warnings issued by local authorities regarding the destruction of the ecosystem and the senseless killing of protected species. Officials noted that these illegal activities pose a severe threat to the region’s biodiversity and the delicate balance of the local environment, which is already protected under strict mandates against the exploitation of natural resources.
The district commissioner and Mayor of Afmadow, Abdirahman Maalim Ali, confirmed that the arrests were the result of a meticulously planned security operation. He emphasized that the administration would show zero tolerance for such crimes, stating that the suspects would be handed over to the justice system immediately to face the full force of the law.
Beyond the arrests, the DC issued a rallying cry to the residents of Afmadow and the surrounding areas. He urged the public to act as guardians of their environment and to play a proactive role in preventing the depletion of natural resources. He stressed that protecting wildlife is a shared responsibility, calling on the community to work hand-in-hand with security agencies to safeguard the nation’s natural heritage for future generations.
