Mohamed Hussein Abdi Lafeey, the district commissioner of Dolow, alongside Hans Henric, the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, officially inaugurated a newly constructed United Nations facility—the second of its kind in southern Somalia.
The inauguration ceremony drew participation from international donors and humanitarian organizations actively involved in relief efforts across the region. The facility, a multi-purpose compound valued at 5 million USD, comprises nearly 50 buildings including administrative offices, guest accommodations, a football field, a gym, a mosque, and a water well.
This marks the second major UN-built compound in southern Somalia, following the well-known Halane base in Mogadishu.
During the event, dignitaries extended their gratitude to the Government of Sweden for its substantial support in realizing the project. Commissioner Lafeey highlighted Dolow’s strategic importance as a border town and a hub for humanitarian assistance to displaced populations affected by conflict and drought. He credited the region’s progress to the strong local governance system and the collaborative efforts that have fostered stability and development.
