The Somali National Army, supported by international partners on Sunday, killed 18 al Shabab militants in a military operation in Baladul-Amin and Baladul-Karim villages in Lower Shabelle region.

Government officials reported that the troops launched an attack on farms based on intelligence indicating that the militants had covertly grouped up in these farming areas.

The offensive comes mere hours after the Somali National Army killed 23 al-Shabab terrorists through three distinct military operations in Bula-Fuley, situated in the Bay region. During these operations, the soldiers managed to destroy three al-Shabab bases.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed eliminating 23 terrorists, including two commanders. The operation targeted a checkpoint, a garage for gathering explosives and an administrative office used by leaders.

The government forces have sustained their attacks against al-Shabab since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an all-out war against the militants in 2022.
