Two individuals lost their lives in a recent clan conflict in Somaliland’s Togdheer region today, local residents report.
The ongoing feud between these two communities has seen numerous resolutions through peaceful dialogues in the past. However, tensions have flared up again over the past few days.
In response to the escalating situation, Somaliland’s President, Muse Bihi Abdi, made an unexpected visit to the troubled region last night. His aim was to mediate the reignited dispute over land ownership between the warring clans.
Disputes over territory and water resources have been a persistent issue in the communities within Togdheer and Sanaag regions. Most of these conflicts have been settled in recent years, but the issue keeps resurfacing.
Despite the recent events, neither the government nor the security agencies have released any official statements regarding Wednesday’s violence in the Togdheer region as of yet.
