Kenyan troops operating under the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) will remain in Somalia, according to the Kenyan Ministry of Defense.
The Minister of Defense of Kenya, Aden Barre Duale, who gave an interview to the Nation Africa newspaper, said that the presence of the Kenyan army will help to strengthen the Somali army.
Aden Duale promised that his government will support President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Somali people to bring peace to their country.
More than 4,000 soldiers from Kenya are in Somalia, especially in the areas of Jubbaland state, who are operating under the African Union Mission (ATMIS).
The former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, said that the number of Kenyan troops in Somalia will be reduced to be part of the ATMIS transition plan, but that has not yet been implemented.
