Somali government forces backed by the local militia group retook Qayib village in the Galgadud region yesterday after a joint security operation against the al Shabab militants.

Ministry of Defense spokesman General Abdullahi Ali Aanod said that the village used to serve as the militant’s regional court, where the group would summon residents in Mudug and Galgadud.

“Our forces drove the enemy of al-Shabab out of Qalib today. On their way out of the village, they destroyed the local water well and the Hormuud communication tower, ” said General Aanood.

According to the Ministry of Defense’s spokesman, the joint forces also liberated Moora-Eri, a small village in the Hiiraan region. Security forces said six militants were killed during the fight against al Shabab.
