Somali Police Force Commander General Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar appointed Colonel Mahdi Omar Mumin as the new Banadir regional Police chief.

Colonel Mahdi Omar will replace General Farhan Mohamoud Adan Qarole, who was killed in a landmine explosion in the Middle Shabelle region last month.

General Abdi Hassan Hijar instructed the new commander to quickly fulfill his duties in a decree issued.

On October 3, Police Force commander General Abdi Hassan Hijar renamed the headquarters of Somalia’s special police forces unit, Harmacad (Cheetah), into Brigadier General Farhan Mohamud Adan Qorole to remember his bravery and the legacy he left behind.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo all said fallen General Farhan Qarole and other soldiers sacrificed their time and lives to protect Somalis from militants.

The explosion killed the commander, his two bodyguards, and the Somali state media’s police correspondent near Bal’ad district, 35km north of Mogadishu.
