Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will travel to Tanzania on today Thursday to attend the East African Community summit in Arusha.

The East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Retreat on the EAC Common Market and the 22nd Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State are scheduled for 21st and 22nd July 2022 at the Arusha International Conference Centre in Arusha.

The Heads-of-State will discuss critical issues at the high-level retreat, including the eastern Congo crisis and the common market.

During his stay in Arusha, Mohamud will hold multi-faced talks with heads of state attending both summits. The trip to Tanzania by Mohamud will be his fifth overseas trip since being elected President on May 15.

Somalia requested membership in the East African Community (EAC) in 2018, but the EAC said it would send a delegation to Somalia to evaluate Somalia’s degree of readiness. However, the EAC did not make any moves since that time. Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Congo are all members of the (EAC).
