The Jubbaland Ministry of Health has launched a polio vaccination campaign in Jubbaland state in a bid to create polio awareness within the community.
According to Jubbaland Department of Public Health head, Abshir Yusuf Mohamed, the vaccination drive, which will last for four days has began in earnest in the Lower Juba and Gedo regions and is set to benefit 140,000 children to reduce the risk of polio.
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a disabling and life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus.
The virus spreads from person to person and can infect a person’s spinal cord, causing paralysis.
According to specialists, Polio can be prevented with vaccines.
