Japan’s finance ministry says it has imposed additional sanctions on Russia and Belarus to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The Japanese government says the new sanctions target up to 20 individuals, including Vice President Vladimir Putin, the deputy speaker of parliament, the president of the Chechen Republic and heads of companies with close ties to the Russian government, such as the Volga Group, Transneft and Wagner.

Twelve Belarusian nationals were also targeted, along with two other Russian and 12 Belarusian organizations.
