Incoming US ambassador to Somalia prepares to take over Mogadishu embassy

The new US Ambassador to Somalia, Larry Andre has visited the Somali Embassy in Washington, DC, where he was warmly welcomed by embassy officials.

Somalia’s Deputy Ambassador to the United States, Jafar Jama, welcomed the incoming US Ambassador to Somalia in his office.

A statement posted on the embassy’s Twitter account read:

“Jafar Jama, speaking on behalf of the embassy, ​​received Ambassador Larry Andre and warmly welcomed him to discuss issues of mutual interest and cooperation. We wish Ambassador Andre well in his work and in strengthening the relationship betweenSomalia and U.S.”

On April 15 last year, US President Joe Biden has appointed Larry Andre as the next US Ambassador to Somalia.

In December, the US Senate voted in favor of the new ambassador, after the House Foreign Affairs Committee tabled his nomination.

Larry, 60, is preparing to take over the post of embassy in Mogadishu, which is currently being temporarily held by Colleen Crenwelge, after President Biden replaced Donald Yamamoto.
