James Swan calls on NCC leaders to expedite holding of credible poll process

A statement from the United Nations Special Representative to Somalia, James Swan called on the leaders of the consultative council to expedite the holding of the elections, in order to improve the confidence of the Somali people.

“I am pleased to join the international community in meeting with the National Consultative Council in Mogadishu today and I urge the council to expedite the electoral process in Somalia to promote the confidence of all Somalis,” said James Swan.

“Friends of the international community are also encouraged to improve the electoral process, including correcting errors in the rules of procedure and ensuring clear deadlines for the speedy conclusion of elections,” The statement further said.

They noted that their completion would allow Somalia to focus on other priorities such as security and development.
