Al Jazeera television has condemned Israeli rockets fired at the Gaza Strip, the headquarters of Al Jazeera and the Associated Press.
In a statement, Al Jazeera announced the move as “a clear act of aggression preventing journalists to fulfill their obligations to the integrity of the reports and events”.
“Al Jazeera is committed to taking all available means to hold the Israeli government accountable for its actions”, Said Al Jazeera Media.
Residents and occupants of the building were informed by Israeli forces by telephone that they had less than an hour to leave the building.
Dr Mostefa Souag, Al Jazeera’s acting director general, said:
“We call on the international community to condemn these barbaric acts against journalists and we call for swift international action to hold Israel accountable for its deliberate targeting of journalists and media outlets”.
A military statement posted on Twitter said the Gaza Tower was a “military facility” owned by Hamas and used as a safe haven.
