The President of Jubaland regional State of Somalia Ahmed Mohamed Islam, chaired an audio and video conference focusing on the drought situation in many parts of Jubaland state that has affected the lives of people as well as livestock.
The meeting was attended by the President and a special committee appointed for drought relief and emergency relief led by the Minister for Interior.
Officials from the United Nations Office in Somalia, UN aid agencies, international donors and aid agencies operating in the country also attended the event, saying they were taking part in the Jubaland government’s efforts to cushion against the raging drought situation in the region.
The Jubbaland state president said there was a need to provide relief aid to the people affected by the drought in various parts of the three regions of Jubaland regional state.
“The raging drought being experienced in the state is severe and loss of lives and livestock as a result of the drought could be catastrophic. We will put in place joint efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of the raging drought “, Said Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam
