The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he is “deeply concerned” about Friday’s violence in the Somali capital. Mogadishu.
Guterres called on all parties to Somali politics to work for the nation’s stability and democracy.
The Secretary-General called on the federal government of Somalia and the regional state administrations to take urgent meeting to reach an agreement on the controversial Somali poll.
“The Secretary-General calls for respect for the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression,” the United Nations said in a statement.
Violence erupted in Mogadishu on Friday and last night, with government forces said to be attacking the hotel where former presidents were staying and opening fire on a rally led by some of the candidates’ union.
