Jubbaland Ministry of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights in collaboration with LWF distributes assistive mobility devices to People with Special Needs in Kismayo

The Ministry of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights of the Jubbaland State in close collaboration with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) distributed an assorted assistive and mobility devices to people with special needs in Kismayo, JubbalandState of Somalia.

The assistive devices included wheelchairs, walking sticks, canes for the blind, arm crutches among other devices to people living with disabilities.

The first phase of this program benefited 250 people with special needs in an event attended by the Minister for Women, Family Affairs, and Human Rights of the Jubbaland Government, Adar Ismail Abdullahi, the Chairman of the National Disability Authority, Mohamed Abdulle Jama, the Chairman of the Jubbaland Disability Umbrella, the Chairman of the Lower Juba Women’s Association, and other officials from the Ministry of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights of the Jubbaland Government.

The assistive devices are crucial for enhancing the quality of life, promoting independence, and enabling participation in daily activities for individuals with disabilities and the elderly by improving mobility, communication, and other functional capacities.

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) actively works to empower people with disabilities, focusing on disability inclusion in its humanitarian and development programs, and advocating for their rights, guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

LWF organization provides social and psychosocial services to people with disabilities, including rehabilitation services at rehabilitation centers in both Kismayo (EARC) and Dhobley (CBRC) centres.
