The spokesperson of the Jubbaland Police Force, Shukri Farah Duale has spoken about today’s gunfight incident in Kismayo, Jubbaland state.
The incident happened when a vehicle driven by one of the Presidential candidate’s bodyguards opened fire at a security checkpoint where the Jubbaland security forces were conducting security checks.
The Jubbaland security forces tried to stop the vehicle with every possible means to ensure security triggering an exchange of gunfire.
The Police said that Gabose’s guards initiated the violence by firing at a police checkpoint first before the officers responded back.
He said the slain officer was a security guard for one of the Jubbaland Presidential candidate, Senator Ilyas Baddel Gabose, while the other two injured were officers from the Jubbaland State Police force.
Shukri Farah Duale called on the public to remain calm and cooperate with the security forces to ensure peace and stability in Kismayo especially during this critical elections period.
“The candidates’ actions has endangered security in Kismayo. We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the forces to maintain stability,” Shukri Farah Duale said.
