The death toll from the inter-clan fighting in central Somalia has risen to 50, with most of the casualties from both sides. The war is ongoing in a village between Herale and Abudwak districts in the Galgadud region.
The conflict began after Saturday morning prayers and involved two clan militias from the Marehan and Dir clans in the Abudwak and Herale districts.
Local reports confirm that over 60 others have been wounded in the fighting and were taken to local hospitals in Herale, Abudwak, and Adado districts in the Galgadud region.
The motive behind the inter-clan fighting remains unclear, despite the traditional elders from both sides attempting to halt the violence, but no resolution has been reached so far.
The Galmudug regional and federal governments have called on both clans to stop the fighting and resolve their issues through negotiation.
