The leader of the SSC-Khaatumo Administration, Abdiqadir Jama Aw-Aali Firdhiye, on Wednesday outlined conditions for the release of Somaliland army prisoners captured in the recent war in the Sool region.

Mr. Firdhiye stated that the release of Somaliland army prisoners would only occur when a comprehensive peace agreement is reached and the Somaliland administration ceases provocations against the areas collectively known as SSC-Khatumo administration (Sool, Sanaag, and Ain).

The leader of the SSC-Khaatumo Administration disclosed that his administration currently holds more than 229 Somaliland army prisoners housed in two prisons in Las Anod town. He emphasized that one of the prisoners succumbed to injuries, while two others, seriously injured, were handed over to their families through the ICRC.

In the middle of this year, SCC-Khatumo forces expelled the Somaliland army from the SSC-Khatumo areas after eight months of conflict between the two sides. Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, speaking the day after SCC forces took control of Somaliland’s main base, Gojacade, outside Las Anod, acknowledged that his troops had suffered a significant setback during the conflict in the vicinity of Las Anod town.
