An event to commemorate the International Malaria Day was held today in Kismayo town, Jubbaland state of Somalia.
The event organized by the Jubbaland Ministry of Health discussed how the people living in the Jubbaland areas could be made aware of the dangers of malaria and best ways to protect themselves against Malaria.
The Jubbaland Ministry of Health awareness head in charge of Kismayo district, Hodan Muse has underscored the critical importance of the world Malaria day to the Jubbaland community.
She also called on the community to increase the use of mosquito nets in a bid to reduce the risk of contracting malaria which is a major problem in the society.
The head of Malaria, Abdikhadar Mohamed Ali spoke extensively on the information collected by the Ministry of Health of Jubbaland in the past year and the areas most affected by Malaria adding that the fight against malaria is yet to be won.
MP Shire Abdi Mohamed who is a member of the Social Affairs Committee of the Jubbaland Parliament and who was in attendance at the event called on the officials of the ministry of Health to look into the plight of poor families who cannot afford malaria treatment.
Malaria kills many people every year in Africa and other parts of the world.
World Malaria Day is marked on the 25th of April annually and is commemorated to highlight the burden of disease globally and the progress made to date by the global community towards malaria control.
