The Minister of State for the Ministry of Security of the Federal Government, Mohamed Ali Hagaa, chaired a meeting yesterday to discuss security reinforcement and implementation of the Arms Control Act in Mogadishu ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations marking the end of the Ramadan.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Somali Police Force and was attended by various officials, including the governor of the Banadir region, the police chief, the director of NISA, the chairman of the military court, and other officials.
During the meeting, reports were presented by the district commanders of the police, security, and police military. The officials also discussed the implementation of the weapons control directive and ways to enforce it to ensure safety and stability.
The heads of the security agencies and the administration of Banadir region agreed to speed up the security measures in Mogadishu, particularly in preparation for Eid al-Fitr, which is only a few days away.
The meeting follows the recent order issued by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, which prohibits carrying heavy weapons in Mogadishu. This order was officially implemented in Mogadishu after its announcement last week.
President Mohamud also banned the importation of all types of military gear, from uniforms to boots to equipment.
