Somali President’s Special Envoy for Somaliland Affairs, Abdikarim Hussein Guled, met with Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh in Djibouti yesterday to discuss the upcoming round of talks between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Somaliland administration.
The envoy and President Guelleh discussed the current affairs and the practical modalities that will be favoured in the talks.
Guled’s trip to Djibouti was part of a regional tour to gain political support for the talks.
“I have made it my moral duty to start my tour of the region here in Djibouti,” Guled said after the meeting. “This is because the Republic of Djibouti, under the enlightened leadership of President Guelleh, constantly brings substantial support to the peace and stability of the peoples of this part of the world.”
“The relevance of the ideas and advice received from the President of Djibouti is commensurate with the significant expertise he possesses in the conduct of peace, consensus, and reconciliation missions,” Guled added.
Guled previously worked on resolving disputes between the Federal Government of Somalia and Somaliland during the tenure of President Hassan Sheikh from 2012 to 2017.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi welcomed the appointment of the envoy.
