Somali National Army (SNA) reportedly killed at least 14 al-Shabab militants during an attack in the Bay region of the Southwest State of Somalia yesterday.
Ali Mohamed Habbad, the SNA commander for the 60th division, told the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) that several militants were also captured, and weapons were recovered during the operation.
Habbad added that the militants attempted to ambush the army at midnight but were ultimately defeated by the soldiers at the camp.
The government displayed the bodies of those they claimed were Al-Shabaab militants responsible for the attack. While the government emphasized that all the Al-Shabaab fighters who attacked the army camp were killed and captured, it did not specify the exact number.
The recent attack follows several heavy attacks by Al-Shabaab in the areas of Runirgod and Dara Nicmo, where they have reportedly killed numerous government forces and local militia forces over the last few days.
