The Somali National Army (SNA) killed 26 al-Shabab extremists in a security operation carried out on Monday between the El Ba’ad and Ruunirgood areas in the Middle Shabelle region.

Major Adan Jeele Ali, one of the officers in charge of the operation, told state-run media that the military forces targeted the group’s army positions and destroyed terrorist hideouts where they harassed civilians.

Ruunirgood and El Ba’ad were among the areas Al-Shabaab controlled for a long time before being driven out by government forces backed by local forces.

Last Thursday, the Somali government announced that its soldiers, supported by international partners and local clan militias, had killed over 350 al-Shabab militants and wounded dozens more in various operations in the country’s south and central regions.

According to Somali officials, the Somali National Army carried out operations in Hiiraan in Hirshabelle State, Mudug in Galmudug State, and the Lower Jubba region in Jubaland State.
