Jubbaland Women, Family Affairs and Human rights Ministry pushes for enactment of FGM bill to eradicate the vice in Jubbaland state

The Jubbaland Minister for Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights, Adar Ismail Jurati has today met with some officials of the Jubbaland Ministries, women’s organizations and groups of women who perform the female genital mutilation practices in Kismayo, Jubbaland state as part of a 3-day Consultative meeting on the enactment of FGM bill.

The project named Joint NCA/SC FGM CEFM programme phase III is being funded by the Norwegian Agency For Development (NORAD) and implementated by the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA)

Adar Ismail Jurati said that they are aware of the rampant cases of clandestine circumcision of small girls in Kismayo who are later taken to rural parts, north of Kismayo town for hiding from the community.

The Jubbaland Women Affairs minister also said that the ministry will create jobs for women who would shun the practice of female genital mutilation, a practice she said is retrogressive and evil to small girls.

The Jubbaland Women’s Ministry is continuing to raise awareness on how to stop female genital mutilation and other evil vices which makes life difficult for the girl child in Somalia.
