The Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) announced that it had certified 200 members of the parliament from both houses.
Presidential candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame and former Somali ambassador to Pakistan Khadija Almakhzoumi were among the MPs who received certificates on Sunday.
But most lawmakers elected from the Southwest state government are not part of those taking the certificates because the president of the state, Abdiaziz Laftagaren, suspended cooperating with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on election issues. He accused the PM of “withholding seats” from the federal member state and violating the independence of the electoral commissions.
Last Saturday, the commission began issuing certificates to the elected MPs of the 11th parliament. In contrast, the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected MPs will take place in Mogadishu on the 14th of April.
