The British Parliament has had a long debate on the recognition of Somaliland yesterday. The debate lasted for more than an hour, with lawmakers debating the issue of Somaliland and how the UK government should deal with it.

The lawmakers were overwhelmingly in favor of the debate presented by Gavin Williamson, a member of parliament who introduced the motion to debate Somaliland’s recognition.

Gavin briefed parliament on Somaliland’s progress in security and democracy, citing a number of reasons why he wanted the UK to recognize Somaliland.

He added that the facts had not been ignored and that it would not take long for the British government to secure Somaliland’s recognition.

The UK Minister for Africa and Member of Parliament Victoria Grace Ford said in a statement on Twitter that her government was committed to the status of Somaliland.
