South Korea will extend travel bans on six countries in the Middle East and Africa as well as parts of the Philippines by six months due to prolonged security threats.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that the ban was scheduled to take place in Jan. 31.
Countries identified include Somalia as well as Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan and the southern Philippine islands of Zamboanga, Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.
According to the Ministry, the said Countries face the constant threat of terrorist attacks and political instability that are likely to persist for a long time.
Travel to Iraq, Syria, Somalia and Afghanistan has been banned since 2007. Seoul has banned Yemen in 2011, Libya in 2014 and the islands of the Philippines in 2015.
